Introduction
Olympics Muhammad Ali lit the torch that started a Games full of joy and tragedy. For the first time, all 197 National Olympic Committees were represented, but on 27 July a terrorist bomb exploded, killing one person and injuring many others.
Paralympics The Atlanta Games saw for the first time athletes with intellectual disabilities competing alongside athletes with spinal cord injuries, cerebral palsy, amputations, les autres and visual impairments in 20 sports over 503 events.
